We Remember September 11, 2001
“Kyrie eleison.” “Lord have mercy on us.”
The words are ancient and the music is Mozart's.
On September 11, 2001, the United States of America came under terrorist attack. In the months following those attacks, people around the world struggled to find solace. Mozart's final work, the Requiem, was performed over and over as the most fitting response to the unthinkable.
When Mozart died, he was only 35 and he left behind a wife and two small boys. That circumstance parallels the Sept. 11 victims, who also left grieving families and loved ones behind.
His Requiem invokes the terror we feel about death, the awe and the anguish, and also gives us hope for an afterlife. The chorus is a voice for us all.
The music expresses faith in "lux aeterna" (light eternal), providing hope and consolation for those left behind. In the Mozart Requiem, we feel the presence of God.
On September 11, 2009, we will again remember the souls who perished in those attacks. Through Mozart’s Requiem, we will pray for them and for their families. And we will remember those people who selflessly lost their lives trying to save others.
This remembrance will be at First Presbyterian Church, 12 “C” Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. The downbeat will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Guest conductor, Dr. Michael Imperiale, will direct the 9-11 Memorial Chorus and Orchestra in performing one of the greatest requiems ever written.

In Remembrance of September 11, 2001
The 9-11 Memorial Chorus and Orchestra will perform the Mozart Requiem on September 11, 2009, time and place to be announced.
If you would like to sing in this amazing chorus, come to our first rehearsal, Monday, August 3, 2009. It will be held at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 195 S. 700 E., Salt Lake City from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
There will be no auditions and no fees. Bring your own score or rent one from Jubilate for a refundable $5.00. You can also buy a score from Jubilate for the same price.
For more information, please email either Gwen at gwens1@xmission.com or Jane at janeo150@gmail.com.
This tradition began with the Rolling Requiem in 2002.
On September 11, 2002, in nearly every time zone around the world, at 8:46 a.m., a conductor gave a downbeat and a choir began to sing the Mozart Requiem for those who perished in the terror attacks on the United States in 2001. Instead of a divided world, we reaffirmed a united one.
This year, we continue to remember and honor those who died, and we sing with hope for a united, compassionate world.

Dear Summer Singers,
Please forgive the tardiness of this message. It should have been sent immediately after the concert but, as John Lennon put it, "Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans". You should know, however, that the passing of 10 days has not diminished my impressions of the evening and the continuous mental replay of the Mass didn't stop until sometime this past Saturday.
Jubilate has sponsored this little get-together five times. Each mini-adventure has been fun and worthy of the time and talent invested but you raised the bar this summer. You not only learned some tricky music very quickly, but infused it with energy and enthusiasm that truly connected with the audience. It was my privilege
to make music with you.
If you are ready to shift gears for a somewhat different kind of group encounter, rehearsals for the 9/11 Memorial Chorus and Orchestra performance of the Mozart Requiem will start on August 3rd. Once again, we'll have 5 rehearsals plus dress and a performance with orchestra on 9/11. Rehearsals will be on Mondays at Mt. Tabor. If you've not done this piece before please consider joining us. It is a guaranteed life-enhancing experience.
Thanks again for sharing part of your summer with us.
Warmest regards,
Harry Heightman

Summer Singers First Rehearsal
Our first rehearsal was great. We have a few Jubilate singers, but we have more community singers this year. It usually takes a couple of rehearsals to really "jell" with new singers, but not so this year. Everyone was singing out and sight-reading up a storm.
There's still time to join the fun, just show up on Monday night at 7:00 pm at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 210 S. 700 E. It's the little round church on the corner.
Turn off the TV and let's make some noise!
